In my opinion... I’ve put many miles in my treeless Sensation saddle and love it. Especially when I’m on so many horses a day, it pays off for both the horse and rider to be comfortable. The only horses that will need a little extra care in the treeless saddles are the narrow back/high withered horses.

For those of you that are not familiar with a treeless saddle, there is no hard structure in the saddle, unlike a “treed” saddle. This makes the saddle more comfortable and easier to fit the horse. However the saddle requires a bit more balance because of this. Mounting requires a bit of practice or a mounting block, and anyone that needs a saddle to hang onto to stay on should probably stick to the treed saddles.

There are many different styles that are available now. If you like the security of a Western saddle, but want the knee rolls of an English saddle, there’s the Hybrid or Westlish Rebel. If you want a deep seated Dressage style saddle, with extra rings for out on the trail, it’s do-able. There are many options, and if it’s not yet an option, that doesn’t mean it can’t be done.
